I myself am currently a Sophomore at
Champlain Valley Union High
School. I am involved in my local church Youth Group and play several sports
including football, lacrosse, and basketball. I have two sisters, one in college
and the other a senior in High School who help me with my business. My mother
and father are also extremely supportive and my mom has been, and still is,
instrumental in getting my business off the ground and running smoothly.

why pretzels
My name is Alec Distler and during my 8th grade year at
Williston
Central School I was required to do what we call an 8th Grade Challenge.
What we had to do was learn about something new. I decided to learn how to be
an entrepreneur and I chose my family's spicy pretzels as my original product
because it was my favorite snack and I wanted to share it with my community.
I started selling at the local Williston Farmer's Market on weekends and eventually
began selling in the local high school, Champlain Valley Union,
as well. Through this I learned what it took to start a business, specifically
one involving food, and was excited about the undertaking. Little did I know
that my product would be a huge hit. The kids at school loved the product and
some of their parents who own local food stores asked if they could carry the
product as well. I was excited to see how far this could go so I agreed and
began my small business with my family, selling from our home here in Williston,
Vermont. Since then the business has grown and continues to grow. We now boast
several new flavors including Cool Ranch, Maple, a tribute to our home state,
and Fiery.
giving back
Community service was an intergal part of my 8th Grade Challenge. I was
required to perform 20 hours of community service which I did at our local food
shelf. Helping others in need has become a commitment of mine so I am
donating 10% of all my profits to charity. I hope that my business continues
to grow as I continue through High School and, more importantly, that you enjoy
my product just as much as I do. |
